I read the article entitled “Let That Be a Lesson To You, Son: Never Upgrade.” and now I’m scared.
Back in the “old days” when I took an active interest (“drew the short straw”, “claimed the throne”, whatever) in administrating and keeping running our local Linux server, I used to encounter releases of Redhat (6.0, I’m looking at you!) which I would skip in favour of newer releases simply because they were so broken. In later days I began to understand why people got more cautious about applying updates all the time (and this happened to coincide with me deciding to not read Bugtraq any more… aside from the SNR getting really bad).
But this says something, it says that the whole issue of Linux has become this ball of spaghetti that is far too tangled to rely on.
Better go find my Sun discs…
